There’s a special feeling you get when you figure things out.

When you have that developer job you love and when you are growing your skills all while making good money. Not worried about tomorrow.

It’s a developers’s paradise.

You wake up with a smile on your face. Breakfast tastes better.

You find happiness in things you didn’t even notice before. Like afternoon walks in the park or sunsets. Because you were too stressed to pay attention.

I know it because I got there.

After years of late nights struggling in front of my code editor, things started to click.

Suddenly, my job became a lot easier. I started to understand why things happened the way they did. The implementation became obvious.

Technical interviews became casual chats instead of interrogatory sessions. Asking my manager for a promotion was like asking for milk in my coffee.

I started living a bigger life.

Doing small things that had a massive impact on my happiness.

I got back into sports and lost some kilos. I bought new clothes that fit me better, and I even started traveling a bit.

Meanwhile, my bank account looked better than ever.

I couldn’t even tell some of my friends what I was making, afraid they would get jealous.

Sure, the money was cool. But it wasn’t buying the latest iPhone that made me so incredibly happy.

It was the peace of mind.

Knowing that I could take care of myself and the people I love for the years to come.

That I finally found something that I am good at, that I enjoy doing and that people are willing to pay me well for.

That’s the thing with a skill like software development.

It is not based on luck like a trader buying lucky stock and getting rich with it.

Coding and software add value to society and, therefore, money to your pockets—forever—or until ChatGPT becomes more than a chat.

I think Warren Buffet said investing in your education si the best investment you can make because no one can take it from you.

Most of you reading this email are still working towards this “developer paradise”.

As someone who never thought I would get there, the one piece of advice I can give you will sound very cliche… Keep on going!

Ignore the naysayers.

The people complaining about “the market” or the ones claiming AI can do something more than regurgitating pre-learned content (or code) back to you.

Don’t let fear or anxiety get the best of you.

Keep on going and let life decide where you belong. You can’t control the world around you, but there are tons of other things you can control.

Like what you do with your time. Or your attitude. Or the effort you put in every day.

Focus on those and success will take care of itself.

One day you will look back with a smile and say: “It was all worth it”.
