Underpaid, 20kg overweight, and addicted to gaming.
Me in my second developer job. Even if at that point, I’ve been writing code for 3 years I still struggled.
Within one year time, I would turn that situation around.
How?
By making what I call "the 100ks decision".
Actually, it was 3 decisions.
First of all, I decided to do whatever it took to figure out how to get to the Senior level. Nobody got anywhere by being a quitter.
Second, I decided to IGONRE every other “magic pill” selling me the next hot framework (because learning new stuff won’t fix my gaps, it will only add more).
Third, I decided to focus on changing my thinking rather than learning something new.
So I shifted my attention from frameworks to mental models.
Did it work?
I wouldn’t be here talking to you today if it didn’t.
Not only that, but these principles took me to levels I never imagined before (like being offered an Architect position only a few months after joining the company).
That was the foundation that Software Mastery System was built upon.
3 years and 220+ students later are only proof that those governing principles work.
Not only for me, not only for our students, but also for you.
Interested?
After a few trips here and there, Bogdan and I will settle for the next few weeks.
This means more spots in our mentorship for ambitious developers looking to get to the next level. Apply here now to see if you qualify, <https://www.theseniordev.com/apply> and let’s have a chat to see if and how we could help you.
If we can help you, I will make you an offer to join the Sofware Mastery Mentorship.
If not, we won’t bug you about it, and we can still be friends :)
Take care, -Dragos
P.S. Next week, Bogdan and I will be at the WeAreDevelopers conference in Berlin (I will be speaking on stage about the exact things I mentioned in this email). If you are around, I would love to say hello. Just reply to this email, and we can grab a coffee there.
P.S. Summer is lovely in Berlin these days. I hope wherever you are. You also take advantage of the good weather to run away from the screen for a bit. Work-life balance is critical to a long developer career!
