Every now and then I find a comment on my YouTube channel.
“But Dragos, the only way to get to the Senior level is time and experience.
You can’t rush things.”
I don’t blame people for thinking like this.
You see, the way people get to Senior level in this industry is the following:
1. Stay in one company for a while and learn 2 or 3 patterns.
2. Move to the next company, another 2 patterns.
3. On to another company...
And after 12 years of moving around acquiring knowledge, the dots connect and magically they become a Senior developer!
This is very different from other Engineering disciplines.
As an ex Aerospace engineer, I can tell you, every major Engineering discipline has a set of patterns and mental models that every professional engineer has to master.
This is not the case yet in software development as it is a relatively new industry.
But, what if we were to make it so?
What if we reverse-engineer this cycle?
What if we pick those mental models and patterns and show them to you now?
Sure, we won’t make you a Senior developer instantly.
