Hello,
It’s been a while :)
As I told you in my last email, I will be writing less and less for the next couple of weeks.
This doesn’t mean I am gone!
Bogdan and I are working harder than ever.
Building a lot of cool stuff that you will find out about soon. This is what forced me to leave the spotlight. Because sometimes in life, you need to take one step back to get two steps forward!
Now, on to the topic of this email.
People talk a lot about passion these days. They say if you find your passion, you won’t have to work a day in your life.
What a bunch of bullsh**t.
Do you know why?
Because hard work is still hard work, no matter how much you like it!
Ask anyone who has a family. They love it. And they will tell you it is hard work. That's because it is.
And love doesn’t make it less work.
But it makes it worth it!
That’s all that matters in the end. If we have to play anyway, let’s play games that are worth it.
Building a successful career is a game that's worth it. And if you are into tech, software development is one of the best ways to do that.
So whenever you see one of those job ads asking you for passion.
Or one of those tech influencers talking about how they started writing code when they were like 5 years old, and they love it. They don’t. That’s why they are doing TikTok videos instead!
Average programmers wait for passion. For inspiration.
Good programmers know that passion will come with time. Sometimes, you just have to do the work.
And most times the work is not fun. But you do it anyway.
Time to take my own advice and go back to work :)
Have yourself a great Monday, Dragos
P.S. Difficulty is about perspective. Listen, building a great career as a developer is hard. You have to learn hard things, really hard things. You have to spend thousands of hours in front of a computer when you could be outside. Enjoying life. You have to navigate office politics and crazy technical interviews and do all that at the same time as you make sure to stay in shape and have a life. And maybe a family. It is challenging. But it is not hard. Hard is being born in a third-world country with no future ahead of you. Worse if you are born a female. Being an orphan is hard. Leukemia is hard. Truth is, if you are like me, you've been extremely lucky. I am not saying you have nothing to complain about that life is not hard for you. I am sure it is. It is hard for all of us. What I am saying is acknowledge how much you've been gifted with and work with that. And I say gifted because life is a gift! Stay cool :)
