First, let’s talk about React.

React 19 is now in beta.

Whether you work with React or not, make sure you check it out.

Questions about features like “actions,” “server components,” and “rehydration” will probably pop up in technical interviews.

Second, I was reading an article about how the demand for developers is moving from the East to the West.

From the USA to India. From Western Europe to Eastern Europe.

It claimed the cost of living as the main motivator.

With remote developers based in Poland making 160k working remotely for the USA.

It also claimed western based Junior devs are going to face a very hard time.

While I do see developers looking to get remote jobs and relocating to areas with lower taxes or lower cost of living, I don’t think this will become mainstream that fast.

For a simple reason, money is not the only factor when deciding where to live.

Also, even though very Senior developers can be highly productive remotely (from anywhere in the world)... Companies still want people to hang out at the office from time to time.

The rest of the companies are doing nothing new, offshoring to cheaper countries(Oracle, Google, etc). The only thing that tells me is that those companies are not innovating anymore.

Yes, the global order and power are changing, with India and China on the rise. Eastern Europe is also catching up very fast.

But, with all their flaws, the USA and Europe are still one of the best places to innovate and live.

As someone who was born in Romania, raised in Spain, lives in Germany and has traveled to other countries (Latin America, Eastern Europe), I can tell you that Western-based software engineers will be doing great.

Those countries are growing, but they still have a lot to catch up with “the West”.

The same goes with AI.

Programming a computer in English is a fantasy. That’s where I think Silicon Valley technocrats are wrong. English sucks as a programming language and LLMs are a dead end for AGI.

In about a month from now, it will be 4 years since I started theSeniorDev.com. On the way Bogdan and I had countless people telling us to do this or do that (Java, Blockchain, AI, etc). Competitors popped up trying to catch the trends.

Four years later, those people are gone, doing something else now. We are growing at the fastest pace ever. The developers we mentor are taking their careers to a whole new level with huge pay raises.

We might launch a new program for developers interested in getting to the Staff/Principal level soon. But it will be built on the same basis as in the last 4 years.

Moral of the story?

In life, you get what you put in.

People who stick to things reap the rewards. Don’t give in to the constant sea of distractions called social media. Keep your focus.
