Hey, you want to know something?

The details don’t matter.

Soo many developers set out to achieve things with a short-term mindset. They are focused on the outcome.

They want the quick fix, they want the job, the pay raise.

And when faced with obstacles, like failing a job interview, being denied a promotion or not being picked for that next interesting project…

They are devastated by failure!

I get it.

You want things now. And so do I.

We’ve all become addicted to instant gratification. We are desperately looking for the next dopamine shoot.

But this mindset is killing your results.

And is damaging your long-term career growth as a developer.

On the other hand, smart developers understand that the process is the goal!

Their ultimate objective is to become the best version of themselves they can be. That includes being the best at their job, building software.

They see each coding challenge, each technical interview, and each technical discussion as part of a bigger process.

Another step towards a bigger goal.

And they know not everything they do will go according to the plan.

Failure will still affect them, sure.

But it won't destroy them!

They will be able to come back faster and stronger because they don’t lose sight of the bigger vision. (Do you have a long-term vision? A mentor can help you define it and polish it... Check out Software Mastery here! <https://www.theseniordev.com/software-mastery>)

So here is my advice to you…

Don’t sweat over the details! And don’t get distracted by the little things!

Learn what you can the best you can. When things don’t go your way, try to learn what you can and move on fast!

Become a long-term oriented developer…

Understand 90% of getting good at it, is sucking at it! Whether is playing the piano, cooking lasagna, or architecting microservices!

You are going to stumble! And it will suck!

But, if you like me, plan to do this for the next 20 years of your life, why care about a bad day here and there?

You are still you.

An ambitious developer trying to make it happen. And there is enough honor in that alone to keep on going.

The promotion, the pay raise, or the new job will be a byproduct of you becoming a better, more productive, and technically happy developer!

Now you know... so go get them, you little devil!

Enjoy the weekend, Dragos
