One developer I mentor told me she wants to quit software development.

I was shocked because she is doing very well. Nice job, nice tech stack, and great salary.

But, she is bored, she says.

She wants to do something more fun.

Like traveling the world, or getting into music... Her childhood dream.

I tell her boring is good.

Getting a bit bored is sometimes part of being great at something.

The baker is bored of baking bread.

They still bake.

The surgeon is bored of patching people up.

They still do surgery.

The actor is bored of auditions and shows.

They still act.

Instead of quitting, I advised her to switch projects to something more interesting.

She did it… And it is working!

The lesson here is that sometimes you should not follow your emotions. Sometimes you should stick to your plan even if you feel bored.
