I used to tell people what I do for a living.
I don’t anymore.
Whenever I went to a tech meet-up, I told the truth: I help developers get to the Senior level faster.
Do you know the reactions I've got?
From “Is that even possible?” or “But most people are not made to be Seniors…” or worse, “Are you a Senior developer?”.
And it was Senior developers that gave me the worst reactions.
They somehow felt attacked. The fact that there might be a faster way to get where they are insulted them.
If training didn’t work, the army would give you a rifle and send you to the front!
Go get some “real life experience” first because the only way to become a Soldier is through experience. They tried that back in 1945, and it did not work at all.
Or look at pilots.
Even the most experienced ones need to go into the simulator every 6 months to check their level of technical proficiency. If they don’t pass, they go back to training. Or doctors, musicians, or even plumbers.
Continuous professional training is part of every specialized profession!
So, why can't developers get the same training advantage?
I get it, Senior Developers worked hard to get there, and I respect that. It's natural to feel protective of the status you have earned through years of experience and hard work.
But I'm not here to diminish their merits.
I want to streamline the process for other developers climbing up the ladder like pilots, doctors, and plumbers do.
That’s precisely how our Software Mastery Mentorship has been built. We boil down everything Senior Developers do by instinct into Mental Models and Principles that you can quickly add to your developer tool kit.
Is this the perfect training? Probably not.
But it is good enough to get you there. And it is a hell lot better than waiting until everything clicks. Or starting 15 online courses made to fit everybody.
If you are interested in how it works and want to join, apply here to see if you qualify! <https://www.theseniordev.com/apply>
Now when people ask me what I do… I tell them I sell online courses! Hahaha. I guess this doesn’t threaten them at all because they know they don’t work :)
Anyway, have a great Monday!
Take care, Dragos, “the online courses guru guy”
