Today we are going to talk about 2 very important things in 2025.

Number one, how it is crucial to get the hell away from your computer… And do some crazy new things!

Like walk into a new part of the city.

Swim in the river. Climb a mountain. Drive a race car. Or fly an airplane!

Whatever it is… Do something that makes you feel ALIVE!

Too much computer stuff can drive one crazy!

Our brains were made for adventure… Not moving pixels all day! So go out, move, jump, run, scream, dance… make love!

Guess what?

A little bit of adventure from time to time will make you a better software engineer!

If you are stressed about deadlines and your boss being over your shoulder… Go jump from 3,000 meters… 45 sec of free fall teaches you a lot about life!

Specially about how not to take things too damn seriously.

I am 31 years old now... If I am lucky (and quit eating so many sweets) I get to live to 83. That means I have about 52 trips around the Sun left… That’s not a lot! You can count to 52 very, very fast.

Every time I get overwhelmed I start thinking about that number!

And you know what… It gets me back on track!

(btw, you don’t need tons of money to have an ADVENTURE, for example, volunteering for a noble cause in your city or village is almost free - you will make new friends, make the world a better place and help someone in need!)

Now that your brain is fresh we can talk about the second very important thing…

That is to THINK FOR YOURSELF!

Ever wondered why this “AI-coding” sh**t show began in the first place?

With CEOs claiming that AI will replace mid level developers? Or ALL developers in the next few years?

It’s because most people externalised their brains to the internet! We don’t read books anymore! We don’t question and we don’t investigate!

Instead we get fed our information from “social media”.

And how does social media work?

One person says something, and thousands of others chew it a bit and spit it back to the algorithm… A huge echo chamber full of brainless crap.

For example a few weeks ago Bogdan and I found a paper where very serious researchers were claiming AI improved developer productivity by over 26%!

After a bit of digging into the data, we found out that the criteria for success was if the developer approved the suggestions GitHub Copilot was making and the build compiled!

Think about it, before ChatGPT we had autocomplete tools like Intellisense.

Guess at what rate were developers accepting the suggestions of those tools, before AI? At about 25% to 30%!

(will dig deeper into the data with Bogdan in our next YouTube video)

So this AI thing is like 5% better right… With billions of parameters and computing power.

Also a developer accepting a suggestion at 25% rate does not mean they are 25% more productive! Sure they don’t type the suggestion, but they need to evaluate it before they accept it. That takes time… And human brain power.

Finally if we were to judge success by a successful build of the application, then we are doomed my friends... Even the most Junior dev knows that an application builds successfully even if what’s inside it is total crap!

By actually digging into the numbers and thinking for ourselves we realized this AI bubble is just that… a bubble!

Big Tech is running out of ideas and can’t justify their big ass valuations to investors… So they prey on the naive consumer with cheap propaganda.

And you know what... I don’t even blame them!

It's their game.

I just want YOU to do the thinking before you choose to believe what you are being told, because…

The person who cannot read has to believe what the person who can read will tell them!

Now that you realise what a scam this AI thing is... You can get back to your Webpack config! Or those Tailwind CSS classes!

One last thing…

Soon we will be opening spots for February. If you want to get one, now is your chance to get on the waitlist.

Stay cool,

Dragos

P.S. So you can see I eat my own pie. That's me being a "pilot for a day". We reached about 950 meters (3,000 smtn feet)... I literally sh**t my pants! Hell lot of fun though!
