Every now and then some developer approaches me with a new “challenge”.

A new framework that just got released.

And my God, this new thing promises to revolutionize everything. From the way we write code to the way we deploy it. Praised by the JavaScript community!

Mmm…

My answer to that?

No. Thank you.

I don’t want another “challenge”. In fact, the last thing software developers need right now is another challenge!

If you are writing code these days, life is already too hard.

Most of you have a family to support, a social life, and a job where what you deliver is never enough. On top of that, a recession is at the door, layoffs are becoming a habit and this ChatGPT is getting smarter and smarter.

This is why you should look for easy things! And you should not feel ashamed about it!

Here is a secret for you... Most framework documentation is propaganda!

It is trying to sell you (in a poor way) that its new way of reinventing the wheel is better than the last one that just went out.

When is reality, the difference between using X or Y framework these days is almost NONE.

Is the same JavaScript that you will send to a web browser. That JavaScript will get parsed, executed, and translate to a user interface for your users.

Whether you do that with Svelte, React, Vue, Angular or any fancy framework! Okay, if you do it with Angular, I am sorry for your poor soul! Please consult a qualified physician.

Because hear me out, your users, the 70-year-old lady ordering condensed milk using that call to action you took 3 days to build doesn’t care!

She doesn’t care about the border radius you added, she can’t even see it! She doesn’t care about the build tool you used and she doesn’t care about whether you store it on AWS, Azure, or your basement computer.

Even your boss doesn’t care! They pretend they do, but they don’t. They are trapped in the same rat race as you, with even more pressure to deliver!

So don’t look for another "challenge". Don’t get bogged down with the details. You might as well lose sight of the big picture.

Look for easy things!

That’s it for today :)

Take care, Dragos

P.S. With all the negativity going around these days regarding layoffs and recession and whatever, I don’t intend to give in and change the purpose of this newsletter.

It will still be an enthusiastic piece of content full of positive messages to get you to believe in yourself and become the best developer you can possibly be. It will also give you really specific instructions on how to improve yourself and your skills. Stuff that can give you an “edge” during these crazy times.

So chill the heck out and subscribe!

(After this “price increase” stuff my calendar got full of people wanting to sign up so I need to get back to Zoom calls, but will be back on Thursday with another lovely email.)
