Do you want to make it big as a software developer?

You need to develop a thick skin.

Because along the way you will have to go through a lot of bad stuff.

Failed interviews, harsh code reviews, delivery pressure, weird requirements, long hours, assholes, more assholes, and all kinds of crazy stuff

The tech industry is a bit of a toxic place.

All that negative feedback will feed your biggest enemy.

That is the voice in your head telling you that can’t do it. That you are not made for it. Call it self-doubt. Call it Impostor Syndrome.

It doesn’t matter.

If you let it take control, it is game over. It will paralyze you and it will suffocate you.

The solution?

Never get discouraged by a bunch of losers behind a keyboard.

Your interview performance, a code review, and how you did in a technical meeting say nothing about how good you are as a developer.

And it says nothing about who you are as a person.

Create a castle inside you and don’t let anyone get inside it. Not your negative colleagues. Not even the negative voices inside your head.

Sure, take a look for feedback and see what you can improve.

But do not react emotionally to it.

Don’t take it personally.

Don’t let it steal you from a good night’s sleep. Put it in a box and forget about it :) Break the chains of negativity around you and your productivity will skyrocket.

The biggest enemy of ambitious developers on the path to success is not some impossible coding challenge, but the negative voices inside their heads.

Screw that.

Look for what’s possible. Focus on your positives and fix what you can from the negatives.

Life is too short for anything else.
