Every developer I talk to asks me the same question these days… “What’s the best thing to do?” The best country to move to? The best company to work for? The best tech stack? Or worse… The best AI…

Every developer I talk to asks me the same question these days…
“What’s the best thing to do?”
The best country to move to? The best company to work for? The best tech stack? Or worse… The best AI tool to learn?
Of course, I would love to help them.
But, I can’t.
Because the more I look around, the more I realize… There is no best anything!
There’s only context and circumstances.
For example, in the USA, software engineers can make up to half a million dollars… Or even more if they work at a top tech company.
But…
Competition is insane. Hustle is mandatory. If you want to be home by 5pm, well…
Move to Germany!
Cost of living is also crazy high (as well as insurance, doctors, and food).
There’s political polarization, and taxes depending on where you live… And you have to use your freaking car to get anywhere.
Even if you can put up with all that…
Immigrating to the USA might be close to impossible right now… Except for certain individuals 🤪
But still… For many people, the USA will be a great place to live 🇺🇸
Others who don’t like to drive everywhere, or pay so much for doctors… Might be better off in a country like the Netherlands, or Germany.
Some others will feel that 6 months a year of crap weather is not worth it.
So they might move back to Spain, or Italy…. And get a remote job because local salaries are a bad joke compared to other countries.
But still…
What’s the best thing a six-figure salary in London can buy you?
Hehehe… It’s a 4 weeks holiday in Spain!
Which is why, many Italians and Spanish are not packing their bags and moving to Amsterdam any time soon.
Some countries have bad weather, but good salaries.
Others have good salaries, but high tax and costs (looking at you Germany!)... Others have nice weather, great culture, but shitty pay.
Same with your tech stack.
And your AI coding agent.
The “best” of anything is whatever works for you!
New York is great is you are single, in your 20ies and just got a well paid finance job.
Málaga is great if you love the sun and you have a family.
So, instead of asking ChatGPT (or Dragos) what’s the best X or Y to do… Think... What’s the best for me right now given my circumstances?
And after that, you still believe…
I should learn more backend. Or maybe more AI.
Or maybe I should pack my bags and move to a different country…
Then go ahead and do it!
(I did it 3x times now, never regret it)
Regardless of what you choose… You will be okay. And if you truly commit to it… You will probably do amazing!
So work hard, be kind… And amazing things will happen!
